November - Bowling!

Our November activity is coming up on Friday, November 1st. We will meet for an afternoon of bowling and fun at Premier Lanes in Gonzales at 1:00. For $6.50/person, you will get 1 hour of bowling (shoes included), a small drink, plus a $2.50 game card to be used in the arcade. Please RSVP to Stephani at sguttery@gmail.com so that we can let the bowling alley know how many lanes we will need. Hope to see you there!

Coming up in October...

We had a great time at the USS KIDD this month. Over 50 children and parents toured the ship and museum. We learned a lot! It was so interesting to get to see and hear about what it was actually like to live in tight quarters on a destroyer back in the WWII era. Our October activity will be an old-fashioned field day at the home of Pastor Cindy Stermer, from 1:00 to 3:00 on Friday, October 4th. We will have two inflatables, as well as games and relays. This will be a lot of fun, and a great opportunity for fellowship! Please bring a snack to share.

September Field Trip - USS Kidd

We're excited about kicking off our fall Homeschool Connections events! Our first event will be a field trip to the USS KIDD & Veterans Memorial located in downtown Baton Rouge, on Friday, September 6th. We will meet at the USS KIDD at 1:00. We will receive a guided tour of the ship, followed by a self-guided tour of the museum. This will last approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours. The cost is $4.00 for students 8th grade and under; $6.00 for students in 9th through 12th grades, and adults. You will pay for the tour individually in the gift shop on the day of the tour. May Event: Insectarium

Hi Moms! Our event for May will be a trip to the Insectarium in New Orleans on Friday, May 3rd. We are getting an awesome group rate of only $5.00/person! (Children under the age of 2 are free.) Our tour begins at 10:30am. We must pay as a group before we go in, so everyone MUST BE ON SITE by 10:10. As per Insectarium policy, anyone who comes late, and does not pay and enter with our group, will have to pay regular full price admission. Be sure to allow ample time for parking. If you go to the website, (See link on right), you can find information about parking under the "Plan Your Visit" section. There are certain parking lots that will give a discount on parking with Insectarium validation. Be sure and check this out. (Allow at least $7/car for parking (after discount). Please RSVP to sguttery@gmail.com with the number of adults and children by April 28th. Also, Please let me know if any of the children are under the age of 2.

Coming up...

We had a beautiful day and lots of fun at the Skate Park in Baton Rouge! This is a picture of some of our Homeschool Connections kids (and kids at heart) at the park. Coming up on April 12th, we will have a Game Day at Gonzales Municipal Park. The park is located on E. Meylan Street, off Burnside, in Gonzales. There are ball fields, as well as a playground, so bring balls and any other games and/or equipment you'd like. As always, bring a snack to share and drinks for your family. Also, in May we will be going on a field trip to the Insectarium in New Orleans! This will be on May 3rd. The cost will be only $5/person! This is greatly discounted off the regular admission price. More information on this trip later.

Park Day!

Our next activity will be Friday, March 8, 2013. We will meet at Perkins Road Community Park (7122 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge) from 1:00 to 3:00. This is a fun park which includes a nice playground plus a concrete skatepark designed to accommodate skateboards and bicycles. So bring your skateboards, Ripstiks, skates, and bikes! Also, bring snacks and drinks for your family. (There are drink machines on the premises.) See "BREC Perkins Road Park" link on the right.

Our next event is coming up on Friday, February 1st. We will meet at the home of Tina Tanner (43447 Tanner Rd., Gonzales, LA 70737) from 1:00 to 3:00. We will be having a lesson in fire-building. Bring ingredients to cook some snacks over the fire! (Examples: marshmallows, JiffyPop popcorn, etc.) Get creative! Come for fun and fellowship!
